Our history
Thirty years of history. Thirty years of sustainability in Italy
The history of Ambiente Italia is linked to the history of sustainability in Italy. The story of the group of experts that gave life to Ambiente Italia begins at the end of the 1973s, in Milan. As in the rest of Europe and in the world, issues related to environmental protection and the scarcity of resources also began to assert themselves in Italy, also thanks to the first major "energy crisis" of 1973.
The first team was gathered around the creation of La Nuova Ecologia, an independent journal born as a supplement to a technical magazine (Acqua Aria), that in 1978 begins to be published as an independent journal”It was promoted byIt was promoted by an editorial committee made up of university students, including Mario Zambrini e Maria Berrini. The publication quickly became a national reference on the issues of resource and health protection and the search for sustainable development models.
During the 80s the writing and dissemination activity of the journal gradually began to merge with the research activity and with the first analysis of environmental impact. It is pioneering studies in Italy, which pave the way for the creation of policies, measurement and analysis tools that are still used today.
In 1986 the Ecology Cooperative, already owner of the newspaper, opens the first office in the premises of via Carlo Poerio 39 in Milan.
In 1992the Italian Environment Research Institute was born, networking and integrating various local realities present at national level (including the Ecology Cooperative itself) with the aim of establishing in Italy an independent and authoritative "Eco-institute", following what was happening in other European countries.
The institute was in charge for the drafting of the annual report "Ambiente Italia" for over twenty years, and still takes care of the scientific formulation of the report on the state of the environment of our cities called "Ecosistema Urbano".
From the origins to today
In 1995the Institute is transformed to all intents and purposes into a consultancy company: it is the birth of Ambiente Italia Srl, in whose constitution took part - among others - Maria Berrini, Duccio Bianchi, Robert Cariani, Julius Conte e Mario Zambrini.
Ambiente Italia thus quickly becomes one of the main players in the sustainability sector in Italy. AI has been at the forefront in the creation of State of the Environment Reports, Environmental Action Plans, Local Agenda 21s. Energy Action Plans for Sustainable Energy and Climate, helping to create environmental standards, measurement tools and indicators that are always at the forefront and often ahead of their time.
Over the years, the activity of Ambiente Italia, which was born strictly aimed at the public sector and local administrations, has expanded to new services for private companies: Environmental, Social and Governance, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Sustainability Reports, are now key elements of the Ambiente Italia portfolio.
At the same time, Ambiente Italia has established itself in Europe as a partner or coordinator of over 100 projects financed by the European Union in the sustainability sector.
